Inspection & Code Enforcement

City Inspector

The City Inspector is responsible for enforcement of codes and ordinances that pertain to building & construction, health & welfare, and zoning; administration and inspection of the Building, Housing, Electrical, Plumbing, and Mechanical Codes regulating construction, renovation, demolition, and occupancy of all buildings and structures; and reviewing building plans and permits submitted to the inspection office. The City has adopted the 2003 International Building Codes and 2005 National Electric Code.

The Planning Commission meets as needed on the second and fourth Monday of every month at 8 am on the third floor of City Hall.

Code Enforcement
 
The City of Augusta Code Enforcement Officer helps maintain and improve the quality of our community by enforcing the municipal codes in a fair and unbiased approach to correct violations and land use requirements.
 
The Code Enforcement Officer receives & investigates reports of violations of the City's Code of Ordinances covering public nuisances and conditions affecting public health, safety & welfare occuring on property within the City of Augusta.  The Code Enforcement Officer also inspects residential & commercial properties for violations and enforces compliance with City codes.

You can call (316) 775-4505 during business hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) to report violations or email the Code Enforcement Officer.  When reporting violations, please provide specific and detailed information, including the exact location or address and a complete description of the problem.  All information provided will be kept confidential.
 
Examples of Violations:
 
► Open storage of inoperable vehicles
 

► Grass and/or weeds on property exceeding twelve (12) inches in height

► Ponds or pools of stagnant water

► Limbs or parts of trees projecting over streets and sidewalks with less than fourteen (14) feet of clearance

► Tires, old appliances, building materials, tree limbs, and piled brush

► Landscaping, trees, or vegetation overgrown or planted in areas at intersections or growing along city streets that cause blind corners and/or obstructs the view of traffic
