SPECIAL MEETING
AUGUST 13, 2007
7:00 P.M.
The Council of the City of Augusta, Kansas met in a special meeting on August 13, 2007, with Mayor Kristey Williams presiding. Council present were Holly Harper, Douglas Marr, Michael Huddleston, Michael Wallace, Tom Leffler, Mike Rawlings, Robert Griffith, and Roger Chrislip. Also present: City Manager Bill Keefer, Assistant to the City Manager JJ Allen, and City Clerk Erica Jones. Visitors present were: Michael McDermott and Julie Roller.
Mayor Williams called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Public Hearing: Council conducted a Public Hearing to take input on the City of Augusta’s proposed 2008 Budget. The Public Hearing was closed after no one came forward with comments.
Proposed Budget: Council considered approval of the proposed 2008 Budget. Huddleston asked if the ordinance had to be published because there will be more expenditures than in 2007. Keefer stated that there is a formula provided in the State budget forms that take into account the monies the City will receive from the State and County. Jones stated that the formula takes into account the differences between the property taxes collected over the last couple of years as well as some other information that is provided by the County. Huddleston asked how the one cent Street Sales Tax is helping the mil levy. Keefer stated that it will keep the levy down about five mils more than it would be if the revenue from it was not going into the General Fund. Wallace made a motion to approve the proposed 2008 Budget with $21,532,339 in expenditures. Rawlings seconded the motion. Motion carried without opposition.
Tax Revenue Ordinance: Council considered approval of an Ordinance that is to be published stating that the revenue generated from property taxes for the 2008 Budget will increase over the revenue generated for the 2008. Rawlings made a motion to approve Ordinance 1948. Griffith seconded the motion. Motion carried without opposition.
Comments:
Williams – Williams stated that for next year’s budget she would like to request an annual report from Downtown Augusta, Inc. Julie Roller presented the Council a document reporting the purpose, funding, and financial data for Downtown Augusta Inc.
Adjourn: At 7:13 p.m. Huddleston made a motion to adjourn. Harper seconded the motion. Motion carried without opposition.
