Update on Status of Play Park Pointe

***Play Park Pointe Update***

The City of Augusta hired a certified playground inspector from a company that specializes in construction of playgrounds like Play Park Pointe. The inspector’s report should be available in the next week or so, but he was clear about Play Park’s condition before he left. The damage throughout the playground, especially to main structural members, is extensive and not recoverable.

Play Park Pointe was built in 2002 and, according to the original playground builder, had a life expectancy of 20 years. Here we are twenty years later. Play Park Pointe has been a regional destination since it was constructed and it holds a lot of memories and meaning for our community and the citizens who joined together to build it. Our community thanks you for your efforts and the joy you brought to so many children and families over the past two decades with your creation.

City crews are currently gathering the fence pickets with name engravings so they can be inventoried and returned to family members.  We will post additional instruction about the returning of these fence pickets at a later date. We will discuss the findings of the playground inspector’s report and plans for demolition and what comes next at the City Council meeting on April 4, 2022.
