Recycle Used Tires - Help Prevent Mosquito-Borne Diseases and Reduce Carbon Emissions

Old tires are an ideal breeding site for mosquitoes.  When filled with rain and leaves, they provide an “incubator” for mosquito larvae.  Help prevent mosquito-borne diseases like West Nile Virus and Zika Virus by properly disposing of old tires.

  • Leave tires with the tire retailer to be recycled.
  • If you already have tires, prevent mosquitoes from breeding by:
    • Storing tires inside.
    • Emptying tires holding water.
    • Drilling holes in tires to allow water to drain.
    • Filling tires with dirt, sand, or gravel.
  • Butler County residents can take tires to Butler County Landfill at 2963 SW 40th Street to be recycled for a small fee ($2.50 per tire and up depending on size of tire). Click here for more info.
